Fossil Fanatics Win Fintech Awards

The Fintech Innovation Challenge held at The Point 2016 hosted by Payments NZ saw five of the country’s top new fintech companies pitch their ideas in front of a 300 strong audience from the financial sector. Dexibit, who provide analytics for museums, were named the award winner.
The finalists each had six minutes to pitch in front of a giant countdown clock and a further four minutes to field tough questions from an experts panel of Mark Rushworth, CEO Paymark; Cecilia Tarrant, Chair ArcAngels and Stefan Korn, CEO Creative HQ, before voting was turned over to the crowd.
Dexibit’s CEO Angie judge took the stage to explain the problem behind old fashioned clicker counters, still rife in the cultural sector, limiting the information available to museum decision makers. Instead, the company detects visitors via mobile device signals throughout the museum, alongside online traffic, social media followings and more, revealing far more depth about the visiting public. Dexibit’s use of transactional and financial data has become an increasing focus in addition to innovative use of other data feeds.
From its original beta site at Auckland Art Gallery, Dexibit has quickly become the emergent market leader in the ‘musedata’ category. Now analysing millions of visitor experiences, the company is experiencing rapid traction in North America, working with some of the biggest names in the industry and receiving enquiries from cultural institutions worldwide.
Judge made mention of how the idea for Dexibit nearly got the team ‘into a bit of hot water’. The team wanted to collect evidence of the starting point for their customers’ operations and were caught trying to covertly video federal security guards using clicker counters at a security heavy museum in Washington DC.
These days, the company has its sights firmly set on the international stage. “We believe the pathway to success for kiwi innovation begins with global domination of a niche market” Judge said, pointing out the world’s 75,000 museums total more than McDonalds and Starbucks combined, representing only the tip of the iceberg in the larger cultural sector. “Our job is to arm our cultural institutions with insight, so they can make the best decisions possible”.
